Six type of Involvement
1. Parenting
Assist families with parenting skills and set home conditions to support children as students. Also, assist schools to better understand families. Parents and teachers get together to discuss about children development.
2. Communicating
Conduct effective communication from school to home and from home to school programs and student progress. Teachers and parents have a chance to get together and gather information from children behavior. Communicating is important because parents need to know how their child is doing in school and what do their child needs to improve. Some school teacher have provided a weekly or monthly folder for parent to review and return to the teacher.
3. Volunteering
Organize volunteers and audiences to support the school and students. Provide volunteer opportunities in various locations and at various times. School has opportunities for parents to volunteer activities in school.
4. Learning at home
Involve families with their children on homework and other curriculum related activities and decisions. Parents can ask a teacher about child homework or how to teach their child homework.
5. Decision making
Include families as participants in school decision and develop a parent leader and representative. School provides families to participate any activities in school. For example, school might teach a child how to use a computer, and then ask parents to make a decision if they want their child to use it.
6. Collaborating with the community
Coordinate resources and services from the community for families, students and schools and provide service to the community. All families and students are able to participate the service in community to lead the self-confidence and feeling valued, belonging to the community and equal opportunities for services. In addition, collaborating with the community assist students to explore and become contributors to their community.
